Abstract

Las pérdidas económicas causadas por la falta del manejo del riesgo climático en el mundo representan un gran porcentaje del PIB. Estos efectos se intensifican en aquellos países en vías de desarrollo debido a una gran variedad de aspectos. En Bolivia, estas pérdidas representan no sólo una dificultad para alcanzar las metas de crecimiento del país, sino también las de estabilidad política y económica. Los desgastes económicos que representan las inundaciones, sequías y otros eventos climáticos poseen un costo de oportunidad significativo. Con el fin de explicar la vulnerabilidad que presenta el país, se analizaron posibles factores que influyen sobre la misma. Para ello se realizó un modelo econométrico revelando la existencia de relaciones a largo plazo entre la inversión pública y el saldo de la balanza comercial con la vulnerabilidad en el país medida en cantidad de muertes y afectados como proporción de la población total.
