Abstract

"In Germany, unemployment insurance expenditures currently exceed revenues. How much could be saved by shortening the maximum duration of unemployment benefit payments? In addition to this question, this report addresses increased expenditures and reduced revenues in other public budgets, potential behavioral effects, and considerations of equity."
