Abstract

The concept of social business circulates among scholars to understand organizations that combine social and market-based dynamics. However, the links between social entrepreneuring and civic commitment have not been explored yet. We intend to analyze these links through the case of Alternative Food Networks. We especially outline an original conceptual framework based on J. Dewey's pragmatist theory of action and applied to economic issues: entrepreneurial and civic commitment is conceptualized as an original democratic inquiry, combining the notions of commitment types, logic and repertoires of entrepreneurial contention.
