Abstract

Economic experiments and living labs operate under different methodological assumptions. However, they can complement each other by establishing robust mechanisms for designing and testing innovations that are likely to contribute to more sustainable and resilient agri-food systems, accounting for behavioral issues and levers to large-scale adoption. Two examples illustrate how combining a living laboratory and economic experiments in a dynamic process generates original innovation. The first concerns green insurance, as a new tool for reducing the use of fungicides in French vineyards; the second concerns water governance in agriculture.
