Abstract

Les échouages massifs d'algues sargasses représentent une menace pour les écosystèmes côtiers, l'économie et la santé aux Antilles françaises. Face à des réponses publiques limitées et tardives, certaines entreprises locales agissent volontairement pour atténuer les impacts. Cet article examine les facteurs qui motivent cet engagement privé dans un contexte insulaire fragile marqué par des capacités publiques restreintes. En mobilisant les théories de la responsabilité sociale des entreprises et des biens publics, nous analysons des données d'enquête collectées auprès de 200 entreprises en Guadeloupe et en Martinique. Les résultats montrent que les entreprises subissant des pertes économiques plus importantes contribuent davantage financièrement, tandis que les plus petites et celles dirigées par des personnes diplômées s'impliquent plus volontiers. Les entreprises récentes se distinguent par une implication civique plus marquée, révélant l'émergence d'identités entrepreneuriales engagées. Nos résultats plaident pour une reconnaissance accrue des initiatives locales qui renforcent la résilience face aux chocs environnementaux.
