Abstract

This study uses data extracted from the base of the National Observatory of public water and sanitation services for the year 2009 (descriptive indicators and performance indicators of public water and sanitation services). A typology of public drinking water utilities is proposed mobilizing previous work. It led to the characterization of 6 utility classes potable water utilities characterized by two parameters: the size (number of people served) and the linear density of inhabitants served (urban or rural character of the service). It permits to identify the impact of the parameters on the price of water, and performance indicators characterizing the quality of service to users, financial and asset management, and environmental performance. This is to highlight the improved performance comparison conditions.
