Abstract

This article examines the rise of platform-based work in Morocco by linking it to labour market tensions, the diffusion of connectivity and digital payments, and the limits of effective social health coverage (AMO). Based on a survey of 480 individuals interviewed across five urban regions, we construct a Living and Working Conditions score (CLT, 0-100). OLS estimates (regional fixed effects, robust standard errors) show that being a platform worker is associated with an average decrease of 5,42 points in the CLT score, all else equal. A Probit model of access to social protection also indicates a lower probability of coverage for gig workers (AME : -0,14), while income and education significantly increase coverage. Overall, the findings suggest that the central issue concerns stabilizing work trajectories and consolidating rights, beyond access to income alone.
