Abstract
This report examines the reasons behind ArcelorMittal's decision to cut hundreds of jobs at ArcelorMittal France's production sites. The problems of market saturation, financialisation and tax optimisation within the ArcelorMittal group, as well as the lack of ambitious European environmental protection, are factors that are not only leading to job cuts but also to a failure to invest in new green production capacities. In order to compensate for these shortcomings on the part of the reference shareholder, the prospect of nationalisation and an estimate of its cost are being considered. This nationalisation is a necessary condition for ensuring the investments required for the green transition of France's most polluting industrial group and for guaranteeing the maintenance of sovereignty in the production of steel, which supplies many industrial sectors.
