Abstract

The article assesses the relationship between employment levels and various economic indicators in Normandy. It focuses on the effects of decoupling economic activities from fossil fuels on employment at the regional level. Using spatial econometric methods, we show that decoupling has limited aggregate effects on employment at the aggregate level: job losses count towards 4 to 5% of the total workforce in the region. However, energy-dependent localities account for a disproportionate share of these job losses. Significant spillover effects are also observed in localities adjacent to fossil fuel-intensive production centers.
