Abstract

Final remarks : Despite a long pastoral tradition, recent revival and interest for goat farming (especially from young people) and rather good market conditions, the future perspectives for the sector of goat farming in Corsica, looks fairly unfavourable due to structural and economic problems. The lack of attractivity due to land access conditions, isolation, lack of services, the condition of work are the main trends in the island. The rising of consumption costs, the sanitary conditions of the herds are other negative factors regarding this activity. Only an ambitious strategy based on a proactive policy to train and support a new population of rural actors with relevant projects (including goats) could stop this deadly tendency.
