Abstract

We answered several scientific, cultural and practical questions to offer an innovative exhibition on the subject of tourism in Cuba and in particular in a major heritage city, Havana. The framework-ordering agreement comes from Toulouse Événements (GLevents), on behalf of the Toulouse International Fair and its animation in April 2017. Grand Sud Formation and its Visa For Tourism laboratory respond to the request through active research to resolve a specific problem, namely creating from scratch a general public exhibition with cultural and scientific research to deal with the heritage of the city of Havana. We recall the opening of the country to tourists and American cruises with numerous geopolitical changes in the region. We used a catalog of royalty-free images from tourists or photographic artists in Havana and from the archives of the University of Florida. This applied research responds to a question and a specific problem of the company through a process of reflective inquiry in the context of an international fair where the general theme of animation is "Holà Cuba". Based on a search of archives and articles - scientific works sometimes dating back more than a century and the country's institutional sources as well as the production of global tourism players, the creation of an exhibition evoking the landscape unique and incomparable of the Cuban capital, Havana is at work. From the Tropicana bar club to Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel 2016 fashion show, through the manufacturing of cigars and the musical culture of salsa, through 48 exhibition panels developed as part of a project, the architectural beauty of the old city is revealed, while referring to the past of "the city of a thousand columns" through its current cultural and societal transformations. Between the life of the inhabitants, the vacation of Ernest Hemingway and the description of the heritage, photographs and information panels offer an enriched vision of this fashionable tourist destination. The choice is to highlight current cultural landscapes compared to old photographs to allow a before and after (of a yesterday today) that is interrogative among visitors and tourism professionals. For funding of more than 14,000 euros and a count of more than 45,000 visitors including success in the specialized and regional press. Report to funding agency.
