Abstract

Venom stands for "Venom is Not Maroa" and refers to modern tools and utilities developed by the Economic Modeling Unit of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) for designing the macroeconomic framework for Madagascar. The Venom model was devised to assist the modeling and forecasting teams for the formulation of a consistent macroeconomic policy with a simple and yet powerful model compared to the obsolete "Maroa" model, and to facilitate the comparison and consolidation of macroeconomic forecasts made by the other departments of the MEF and the Central Bank of Madagascar. Recall that the Maroa model was initially elaborated in 1998 by the former Permanent Secretariat for Macroeconomic Forecasting (SPPM) and was particularly updated later to meet the needs of the Budget Directorate.
