Abstract

Cet article examine des facteurs de compétitivité européenne relativement aux États-Unis depuis l'année 2000. Nous comparons d'abord les composantes standards des coûts de production (intrants intermédiaires, marges, etc.) ainsi que l'évolution des prix de production. Il ressort de cette comparaison que les intrants intermédiaires sont le premier facteur d'augmentation des prix de production. En revanche, l'Europe a préservé sa compétitivité-prix par d'importants efforts de marge. Nous examinons ensuite la dynamique d'investissement en R&D et la production de brevets, notamment dans les technologies stratégiques. Nous trouvons que l'effort de R&D européen reste très insuffisant. En matière de brevets, l'Europe reste bien positionnée sur des secteurs industriels matures, pendant que la Chine progresse dans les technologies émergentes (informatique quantique, robotique avancée) et que les États-Unis conservent leur position de référence dans l'intelligence artificielle, l'informatique quantique et les technologies de la santé.
