Abstract

Depuis 1994, l'Afrique du Sud a fait de l'intensification de ses relations avec l'Asie un des axes de sa diplomatie économique. Il semble qu'elle soit parvenue à maintenir la tendance, déjà amorcée, à la croissance des échanges et des investissements, mais sans en retirer tous les bienfaits qu'elle en espérait. En revanche, elle a été l'un des pays africains les plus affectés par la crise asiatique, en partie à cause de l'expansion antérieure de ses relations avec l'Asie, mais surtout du fait de sa vulnérabilité aux crises exogènes, vulnérabilité aggravée par le faible degré de liberté de sa politique financière.
