Comment mesurer le bien-être et la prospérité ?

Abstract

Si ie produit intérieur brut (PIB) reflète l'activité économique d'un pays et en mesure sa croissance, il ne reste néanmoins qu'un indicateur comptable de production de richesse. Or, au XXIe siècle, cette mesure ne suffit plus. D'autres critères, plus globaux, sont désormais pris en compte pour mesurer le développement d'un pays : le bien-être et la prospérité à plus long terme. L'évaluation de ces dimensions qualitatives n'est pas aisée : quelles sont les dimensions pertinentes à retenir ? Éloi Laurent présente plusieurs de ces indicateurs alternatifs issus du programme des Nations unis pour le développement. Il pointe leur importance et la difficulté de leur mise en place compte tenu du « métabolisme » des économies, c'est-à-dire face aux flux réels, nécessaires à leur fonctionnement. Ce chantier majeur des indicateurs de bien-être et prospérité apparaît essentiel pour réinventer nos modèles économiques et répondre aux défis de demain. [résumé éditeur]
