Abstract

Depuis le début du XXe siècle, la structure des marchés du travail européens s'est transformée principalement de deux manières : d'abord, les femmes ont été de plus en plus nombreuses à participer au marché du travail, même lors de la crise, et les taux d'activité des femmes entre pays européens, autrefois éloignés, se sont rapprochés spectaculairement. Ensuite, le marché du travail apparaît de plus en plus polarisé. Le terme « polarisation » désigne la disparition des emplois intermédiaires au profit d'emplois soit de faibles niveaux de qualification soit de très hauts niveaux de qualification. Nous montrons dans ce chapitre que les questions de genre et de polarisation du marché du travail s'entremêlent en Europe plus qu'ailleurs, car les emplois en croissance, en réponse à la polarisation, sont beaucoup plus souvent occupés par des femmes. Au contraire, les hommes sont majoritaires dans des emplois intermédiaires en déclin. [Premier paragraphe]
