Abstract

La reprise attendue au printemps 2002 n'a pas eu lieu. Dans la zone euro, la croissance serait de 0,7 % pour l'année 2002. Les États-Unis ont connu une croissance supérieure (2,4 % en 2002), mais en retrait par rapport aux performances de la fin des années 1990. Les tensions géopolitiques et les crises financières en Amérique latine ont contribué à ces mauvaises performances. Mais ces événements ne suffisent pas à comprendre ou à expliquer le choc profond qui atteint les entreprises des pays développés. Au-delà des écarts qui caractérisent la situation d'un pays à l'autre, un constat général s'impose au début 2003. Aussi bien aux États-Unis que dans la zone euro, les entreprises sont confrontées à de fortes contraintes structurelles, qui ont pesé et pèseront sur l'investissement au cours des prochains trimestres. Ces contraintes se traduisent par une difficulté généralisée de financement dont l'origine est la crise que connaissent les marchés financiers depuis le printemps 2000 (...).
