Abstract

Le socialisme s'est défini historiquement par une critique du capitalisme et de la société qu'il façonne. Irrationnel, comme en témoigne la sévérité de ses crises, injuste en matière de répartition, aliénant moralement, le système capitaliste plonge les individus dans les " eaux glacées du calcul égoïste ". Ce sont là les trois grandes critiques formulées très tôt par les socialistes. Mais quelle alternative proposer ? Les débats autour de cette question centrale n'ont jamais cessé depuis les origines du socialisme.Pour Daniel Cohen, Alain Bergounioux et les 23 contributeurs de ce volume, une bonne part des problèmes identitaires dont souffre aujourd'hui le socialisme en Europe tient à cette question toujours non résolue et d'autant plus cruciale à l'heure où le capitalisme financier traverse une nouvelle crise profonde.Retracer cette histoire, du point de vue doctrinal, évidemment, mais aussi politique, c'est procéder à un indispensable droit d'inventaire. C'est également trouver les clés de la pérennité du socialisme démocratique et des conditions de son renouveau.
