    Nous suggérons que la monnaie a pu émerger comme une institution à part, de manière indépendante d'autres faits institutionnels préalables, même si elle peut être définie, naturellement, dans les termes d'une convention impliquant des capacités linguistiques et cognitives développées parallèlement. Il n'y a aucune raison de penser que la monnaie tire prioritairement son efficience sociale du fait que le langage ou que des phénomènes d'intentionnalité collective lui préexistaient, comme le pense Searle. On peut même penser que dans le domaine économique c'est plutôt la reconnaissance immédiate de la valeur monétaire qui rend possible la confiance et l'intentionnalité collective. Cette position nous semble rejoindre l'approche institutionnaliste de la monnaie proposée par Michel Aglietta et André Orléan. Nous la rejoignons notamment par des observations biologiques, d'un type différent donc des observations anthropologiques qui peuvent soutenir la position hétérodoxe sur la monnaie proposée par ces auteurs.
