Abstract

De l'émergence de la monnaie dans l'Antiquité jusqu'à aujourd'hui, la finance est l'une des activités humaines les plus mondialisées, les plus interconnectées et l'une des technologies sociales les plus importantes jamais inventées. Ce premier ouvrage illustré à lui être consacré recourt à des graphiques et des cartes pour montrer comment l'aspect géographique est fondamental afin de bien la comprendre. Il met en lumière les personnalités – dont Adam Smith, Karl Marx et John Maynard Keynes – qui ont façonné notre réflexion sur la finance mondiale ; il donne vie à la manière dont l'histoire, les lois, les réglementations et les institutions propres à chaque lieu l'ont influencée ; il montre comment elle est liée à l'innovation, à la mondialisation et aux changements environnementaux ; et il explique en détail comment elle joue un rôle clé dans le développement de l'inégalité et de l'instabilité sociale.
