Abstract

This article aims at shedding light on the dynamics of young Moroccans' careers. In an economy characterised by informal employment, the signals provided by education and work experience are disrupted. Moreover, the trajectories of young men and women are very different, with the former gaining access to jobs outside the informal sector through education and a favourable family context, while most young women's trajectories are characterised by inactivity, with secondary or higher education providing little access to employment. Once they have completed their studies, the first job they take determines their status in later years, illustrating the strong segmentation of the labour market for young Moroccans.
