The increasing international mobility of nurses highlights a highly complex ethical and political dilemma. Although nurses are legitimately entitled to pursue more advantageous career prospects abroad, the mass migration induced by the growing dependence of high-income countries on foreign caregivers is accentuating shortages in low- and middle-income countries. The latter, with their limited budgetary resources, struggle to retain their nursing staff, despite substantial public investment in their training. These skills drain undermines the strength of local healthcare systems. Moreover, the often-unethical recruitment practices of host countries and agencies only exacerbate existing inequalities, making the challenge of equitably distributing and retaining healthcare professionals on a global scale all the more complex.
