Abstract

During the interwar period in the United States, Joseph A. Schumpeter was a fervent advocate for incorporating mathematics, statistics, and econometrics into economics. He actively engaged in academic debates on emerging macroeconomic topics such as macrodynamics, economic instability, and the business cycle. This article examines Schumpeter's significant contributions in promoting these analytical tools and subjects through various academic channels, including journals, learned societies, and courses. It also addresses the paradox that, despite his advocacy, Schumpeter did not extensively integrate these methods into his own work, most notably in his book Business Cycles (1939).
