Abstract

L'objectif de cet article est d'analyser le processus endogène d'émission des billets de banque nationaux et des certificats de prêts de la Chambre de compensation dans le cadre du National Banking System (1863-1913). Nous étudions les types de banques et de billets de banque, nous expliquons ce que signifient un système monétaire adossé à des obligations et les propositions alternatives pour un système monétaire adossé à des actifs. Enfin, nous insistons sur les avantages d'une banque centrale qui permettrait de supprimer la limitation quantitative des billets émis en fonction des actifs.
