Abstract

Like all organizations, NPOs have been heavily affected by the health crisis. Nevertheless, to protect their viability and to achieve a recovery, the maintenance of NPOs' governance is essential. Its restructuring also seems necessary. For this, they can rely on their volunteers and partners, who are key resource providers. The proposed study is based on a survey of 10,926 French NPOs. Changes in governance can be positive for improving their viability, but they also have negative effects on the relationship with volunteers. Restructuring governance in times of crisis therefore does not always seem desirable. On the other hand, the governance practices of NPOs that have better resisted the crisis are highlighted.
