Abstract

In this presentation we would like to address a methodological question about evaluation. The aim is to discuss and compare different evaluation processes and tools, in order to analyze a particular public participation approach for enatural resources management: participatory modeling. The argument is based on a joint practice of participatory modeling and its evaluation. To do this, we first introduce participatory modeling. Secondly, we define a normative frame of reference for decision-making or consultation processes with regard to sustainable development. On this basis, we can then present our hypotheses on the contribution of participatory modelling to sustainable development. This allows us to propose evaluation objectives and, finally, to characterize and compare the related methods.
