Abstract

Le confinement a au moins une vertu, celle de nous amener à nouveau à nous interroger sur les crises économiques. Ainsi il a produit une formidable effervescence des débats économiques sur la toile et dans les médias. Les économistes ne semblent pourtant pas à leur aise dans ce mouvement d'introspection collective, aussi soudain que prolifique. Habitués à détenir le monopole du commentaire à chaud et de la prophétie économique, ils observent ou participent aux débats avec une certaine prise de distance et parfois un zeste de perplexité. Face à la crise, leur agilité intellectuelle et leur propension à alimenter le débat public semblent prises en défaut, mises en quarantaine, en comparaison des chercheurs des autres disciplines des sciences humaines et sociales. Comment expliquer cet embarras des économistes à entrer de plain-pied dans le travail de réflexion collective ? Quelles solutions ont-ils à proposer ? La science économique est-elle en mesure d'apporter des solutions pour, dans un premier temps, empêcher l'effondrement total, et à plus long terme relever les défis économiques, sociaux et environnementaux du XXIe siècle ?
