Abstract

Oliver E. Williamson est un économiste américain, né le 27 septembre 1932 à Superior, une ville du Wisconsin et décédé le 21 mai 2020 à Oakland, près de Berkeley (sa ville de cœur où il était professeur), en Californie. Il obtint aux côtés d'Elinor Ostrom le prix de la Banque de Suède en sciences économiques en mémoire d'Alfred Nobel en 2009 pour "son analyse de la gouvernance économique, et notamment des frontières de l'entreprise. Il fut un auteur prolifique de 1963 à 2016, bénéficiant d'une grande influence en économie, et tout particulièrement dans ces deux sous-champs disciplinaires que constituent l'économie des institutions et l'économie des organisations, mais aussi en management, et dans une moindre mesure en science politique, en droit et en sociologie.
