Abstract

Toulouse s'affiche aujourd'hui comme l'une des aires urbaines les plus dynamiques de France. Capitale européenne de l'aéronautique, elle possède une forte identité héritée d'une longue histoire s'étalant sur 2000 ans. De plus, la création récente de la grande région Occitanie lui redonne un statut de métropole provinciale rappelant ses plus glorieuses heures passées. En effet, Toulouse fut successivement une ville romaine active, puis la capitale des royaume wisigothique et aquitain, avant de devenir celle du Languedoc et du pastel. Cet ouvrage de 800 pages rassemble les meilleurs spécialistes du cheminement de Toulouse à travers les siècles (18 auteurs). Il présente les dernières avancées de la recherche en abordant chronologiquement les temps forts, mais aussi les crises, de la cité. Des chapitres plus thématiques analysent les caractéristiques majeures de la ville de Nougaro : l'université, la médecine, les arts et l'architecture, l'aéronautique et le spatial.
