L’image en sciences sociales une opération de mise en visibilité

Abstract

L'apparition de la vidéo légère en 1970 a déclenché chez les sociologues de terrain l'envie de s'ouvrir à l'audiovisuel, ses outils, ses usages. Elle a eu pour objet successivement le travail, la famille et les modes de vie ouvriers, la formation des jeunes et singulièrement les femmes, leur place dans le travail productif et domestique. On interroge ici la place de l'image dans la production de connaissances ; quelques pièges son identifiés comme l'illusion de la transparence et la nécessité d'intégrer à la réflexion une science des signes pour que l‘image fasse avancer la recherche et sa diffusion au delà d'un public limité de chercheurs.
