Où sont les jeunes après un décrochage scolaire ? Une analyse de la situation de 2 935 « décrocheurs »

Abstract

Dans quelles situations se trouvent les jeunes ayant interrompu leur formation secondaire avant l'obtention d'un diplôme ? Une enquête réalisée dans 5 académies auprès de 2935 jeunes en situation de décrochage fournit un certain nombre de réponses à cette question. Interrogés en moyenne 13 mois après leur décrochage, ils sont majoritairement au chômage ou en inactivité. Toutefois une part non négligeable d'entre eux se trouve en emploi (de 28 à 30% selon les académies) ou en formation à temps plein (de 10 à 18%). L'analyse des données montre que, outre leurs caractéristiques individuelles et les contextes territoriaux dans lesquels ils vivent, la diversité des expériences scolaires de ces jeunes affecte significativement ces premiers pas dans le processus d'insertion : les expériences les moins douloureuses et les plus proches d'une qualification complète favorisent l'accès à l'emploi, le décrochage précoce dès le collège éloignant au contraire du marché du travail. L'accompagnement semble également avoir un effet très significatif sur la situation des jeunes, notamment sur le raccrochage en formation.
