Abstract

This paper will report on a two-year collaborative programme between Edinburgh Napier University and Aix-Marseille Université which has brought together final year students of French and students on an Export by apprenticeship Master programme who combine working in a French company with management and language studies. After outlining the pedagogical contexts in France and Scotland which prompted the set-up of the initial educational project, we will present the pedagogical activities which were designed to stimulate linguistic and cultural exchanges through engagement with a wiki and skype sessions in Year One. We will then present how reflections on the initial experience has led to a redesign of pedagogical activities in Year 2 and a broadening of the project to include face-to-face exchanges between the two institutions and a range of entrepreneurial and intercultural activities. Reflections on this collaboration will include a review of the pedagogical activities undertaken, the challenge of combining mutually beneficial linguistic and cross-cultural activities and considerations of the sustainability of this exchange.
