Abstract

En 1786-1787 Valentín de Foronda, intellectuel espagnol, correspond avec Lemercier de la Rivière à propos de la Banque de Saint-Charles fondée et dirigée par François Cabarrus à la demande du gouvernement de Charles III d'Espagne. L'établissement prend modèle sur la Banque d'Amsterdam et la Caisse d'escompte de Paris, il est chargé de l'acquittement des obligations du Trésor espagnol et de l'administration des fonds des armées. Les titres de l'établissement vont être l'objet de spéculations par lesquelles vont s'opposer Cabarrus (et ses contacts en France : les familles de financiers Couteulx et Lenormand) et un réseau parisien comprenant Brissot, Clavière, Panchaud et le comte de Mirabeau. Ce document propose une présentation et la transcription de ces lettres et annonce le volume IV des oeuvres de Lemercier de la Rivière qui proposera la traduction en français réalisée par Béatrice Perez.
