Abstract

L'ordonnance édictée à la Martinique le 3 septembre 1759 par le gouverneur général François de Beauharnais et l'intendant Paul Pierre Lemercier de la Rivière illustre à la fois les difficultés économiques de l'île de la Martinique (et des Antilles françaises en général) à l'époque de la guerre de Sept ans (1756-1763) et la détermination de l'intendant à imposer des réformes économiques propres, selon ses convictions physiocratiques, à faciliter les paiements et à stimuler les activités économiques dans leur ensemble. Ce document présente une copie du modèle de billet, que souhaitent mettre en circulation les deux administrateurs, réalisée à partir d'un original inédit appartenant à une collection privée.
