Abstract

Dans les années 1950, l'an 2000 faisait rêver. Les bandes dessinées et les romans de science-fiction laissaient entrevoir un monde de mobilité en trois dimensions. Les « scooters volants » et autres « autoroutes virtuelles » n'étaient-ils pas la suite logique des gains de vitesse issus de la naissance des chemins de fer puis de la diffusion de l'automobile ? Soixante années plus tard, force est de constater que ces scénarios futuristes s'éloignent aussi sûrement que la ligne d'horizon, au point de provoquer un certain désenchantement. Une déception qui n'est pas étrangère au sentiment que nous n'aurons plus affaire dans les prochaines années qu'à des améliorations techniques incrémentales sur lesquelles nous ne pouvons plus fonder un quelconque espoir de progrès. Et pourtant…
