L’internationalisation du renminbi : enjeux et limites des réformes institutionnelles

Abstract

L'internationalisation du renminbi (RMB) a focalisé l'attention de nombreux universitaires, économistes et politologues, depuis la fin des années 2000. Les données disponibles aux chercheurs font état d'un développement de l'usage du RMB à l'échelle internationale. Cet article a un double objectif : dans un premier temps, exposer les évolutions qualitatives de la monnaie chinoise, en analysant les modifications du cadre institutionnel du RMB. Dans une seconde section, il interroge les ambitions et les limites de la stratégie de la Chine d'internationalisation de sa monnaie. À ces fins, ce travail se penche sur la littérature qui s'est largement répandue sur le sujet ces dernières années. Dans la mesure où l'émergence monétaire internationale de la Chine est un processus conflictuel à la fois au niveau national et international, générateur de tensions avec d'autres puissances, en premier lieu les États-Unis, cet article questionne à la fois la volonté et la capacité de la Chine à surmonter les obstacles à l'internationalisation de sa monnaie.
