Academics’ values in French universities. Does commitment to performance match with commitment to university ‘publicness’?

Abstract

Ce travail s'intéresse aux conséquences des réformes portées par le nouveau management public et plus particulièrement aux tensions que ces réformes peuvent faire naître entre volonté de managérialisation et valeurs publiques. Une enquête par questionnaires menée auprès d'acteurs universitaires impliqués dans la gouvernance de leur établissement et confrontés aux récentes réformes centrées sur la performance nous permet d'étudier les liens entre l'attachement aux valeurs publiques et l'adhésion à la culture de la performance. Nos résultats montrent que l'adhésion au management par la performance présente une corrélation négative avec l'attachement à la nature publique de l'université et que les caractéristiques des répondants (statut, fonction, réputation…) expliquent largement leurs attitudes à l'égard de ces deux notions.
