Abstract

This object of this article is to study the question of the articulation between globalization and territoriality on the basis of a concrete case, that of the "Vallée de l'Arve" in Haute-Savoie, between Geneva and the Mont Blanc (also called "Technic-Vallée"). It is an LPS (local production system) structured around the screw-cutting industry which derived from watch-making activity, and consists in the machining of various metal components (by turning, milling, drilling…) destined for different industrial sectors, the car industry in particular. The "Vallée de l'Arve" economy is, indeed, a good example of local economy opened to the globalization, with the constraints this opening imposes, but also the opportunities it offers at many levels. Within this framework, the central questions raised in this article are as follows: what are the concrete forms taken by the international opening of the "Vallée de l'Arve" local economy? And what are the effects of this opening on the local territory of the "Vallée de l'Arve"?
