Joseph A. Schumpeter et la conjoncture économique des années 1930-1940 : dépression, stagnation ou signes avant-coureurs du déclin du capitalisme ?

Abstract

La Grande Récession, enclenchée par la crise américaine des subprimes et ses conséquences, suscite de nouveaux questionnements dont certains nous conduisent à la problématique de la stagnation et du déclin économique. Il est donc utile de revenir sur l'analyse proposée par Joseph Schumpeter de la conjoncture des années 1930-1940. S'agit-il d'une dépression Kondratiev analogue à celle de la période 1873-1897 ? Ou bien a-t-on affaire à l'arrivée d'une stagnation séculaire, comme le croit Alvin H. Hansen ? Cette étude analyse les différentes critiques de Schumpeter adressées aux arguments défendus par Hansen. C'est aussi l'occasion de rappeler la thèse schumpetérienne du déclin, fondée sur la dégénérescence de l'« ordre capitaliste »
