Abstract

Dans un texte consacré aux violences rurales dans la France du 19e siècle, Alain Corbin signalait une nécessaire évolution de l'historiographie. Longtemps, ces violences qui connurent un pic au milieu des années 1850 avant de décroitre furent, en effet analysées selon un canevas que l'historien pouvait résumer en ces termes : « durant près d'un demi-siècle, les historiens de la violence collective (…) tentaient de discerner, derrière la réitération des gestes anciens, la manifestation d'une conscience de classe,
