Abstract

This article provides an evaluation of the environmental content of economic relations between China and Japan, focusing on the analysis of three channels of green technology transfers : international trade in environmental goods, international patent families, and clean development mechanism. Firstly, the inversion of the trade balance of some environmental goods reveals the acquisition of air management technologies, waste water treatment technologies, and renewable energy technologies by Chinese firms. Secondly, the international patent family data reveals that the air management technologies are mainly transferred through this channel. Thirdly, hardware and software technologies are also transferred through the implementation of clean development mechanism projects, and the transfers are more important through the projects with high environmental efficiency.
