Abstract

la gratuité constitue le modèle dominant de production et d'échange sur Internet, soulevant une double question : pourquoi tant d'internautes mettent-ils gratuitement des ressources matérielles et immatérielles à disposition des autres ? Et comment ces contributions individuelles réussissent à former des productions collectives gratuites de grande envergure comme Wikipedia ? Nous fournissons des éléments de réponse, en nous appuyant sur l'économie comportementale (accent sur les motivations et incitations individuelles à contribuer) et l'approche néo-institutionnalistes (accent sur l'action collective et les communautés). Wikipedia permet d'illustrer le rôle des communautés dans la structuration de la production et l'échange de biens et services gratuits.
