Abstract

Following resignation or dismissal, what are the employment transitions of workers in a significant technical or organisational change context in their firm? The COI 2006 survey and its associated qualitative post-survey may be some tools to study these transitions by structural determinations and individual strategies. Five types of employment transition are shown according to three criteria: how the employee sees the change; the permanence of her/his job; the initiative of job termination; her/his ability to mobilise a career plan. Successful transitions correspond to resignations and to job terminations chosen; risks of exclusion, to dismissals and to job terminations imposed. Between these two transitions, the paper points an intermediate area with as well resignation as dismissal, choices as constraints.
