Contraintes financières et exportations : cadre d'analyse et évidence empirique dans l'UEMOA

Abstract

Cette étude examine l'impact des contraintes financières sur la participation aux exportations des firmes de l'Union Economique et Monétaire Ouest Africaine (UEMOA). S'il existe plusieurs arguments théoriques qui prédisent que les facteurs financiers peuvent influencer les exportations, il n'y a pas encore d'évidence empirique persuasive sur cette question dans les pays de l'UEMOA. Nous commençons par présenter un cadre d'analyse simple décrivant la mesure dans laquelle les contraintes financières influencent les performances à l'exportation. Nous utilisons ensuite un échantillon de firmes des pays de l'UEMOA et une approche économétrique permettant de corriger un éventuel biais d'endogénéité pour tester notre prédiction théorique. Nos résultats montrent principalement que les contraintes financières réduisent significativement la probabilité d'exporter et l'intensité des exportations des firmes. Ces résultats sont robustes à l'utilisation d'un indicateur alternatif de la situation financière des firmes et ne sont pas dus à la présence d'observations extrêmes.
