Abstract

Americanism as a central point of the political, social, intellectual and academic agenda in Spain: some explicative notes This paper focuses on the different factors that make Latin Americanism in Spain so different from that in the rest of Europe. Among others, this work analyses historical, economic and political reasons, the fact of sharing a common language, the relevant presence of both Spanish settlers in Latin America and Latin American ones in Spain, as well as the presence of Latin American students in the Spanish academic institutions. In addition, the paper describes both the plurality and diversity of actors involved in this specific cultural dynamics, not only coming from the academic area but also from the cultural, political and economic ones, since this work analyses the main academic publications and postgraduate courses offered as well as the national association that coordinates them all.
