Abstract

Toutes les professions intermédiaires n'aspirent pas à devenir cadre. Le souci de préserver des conditions de travail permettant de concilier vies professionnelle et personnelle est le plus souvent mis en avant pour expliquer leurs réticences. Aux yeux de certains salariés, devenir cadre signifie également devenir manager. Se pose alors la question de l'identité professionnelle : plusieurs ne souhaitent pas renoncer à ce qui fait le cœur de leur métier au profit d'activités managériales pour lesquelles ils ne se sentent ni intéressés, ni compétents. Passer cadre suppose en outre de s'éloigner de ses collègues actuels pour rejoindre une catégorie considérée à part au sein de l'entreprise et tournée vers la direction. Enfin, un certain nombre de facteurs liés au fonctionnement des marchés internes eux-mêmes peuvent conduire les professions intermédiaires à s'autolimiter et ne pas envisager un passage en catégorie cadre : les règles de promotion sont parfois perçues comme floues, trop sélectives, et faisant l'objet d'un faible accompagnement de la part de l'entreprise.
