Abstract

Programme de recherche florissant, l'approche dite comportementale a trop tendance à taxer d'incompétence ou d'irrationalité des épargnants dont elle décèle moult " anomalies " dans les comportements. Ses diagnostics sont cependant établis par rapport aux prédictions de modèles qui font l'impasse sur le contexte situationnel dans lequel se trouvent les individus, comme leurs rapports à la mort, qui ne sont pas seulement régis par les probabilités mathématiques de survie ; les ruptures qui scandent leur horizon temporel aux nœuds ou bifurcations du cycle de vie ; leurs projets en cours qui donnent aujourd'hui sens et substance à leur existence. Une approche existentielle qui incorpore ces différents éléments, à travers notamment une préférence pour le présent discontinue aux nœuds de l'existence, pourrait, sans invoquer la rationalité limitée des épargnants, rendre compte de certaines énigmes posées par leurs comportements : la diffusion restreinte des rentes viagères ; les échecs des tests expérimentaux relatifs aux préférences à l'égard du temps ; la détention des actions qui reste minoritaire dans la population mais touche tout autant des retraités plus réfractaires au risque.
