Abstract

En anglais: This article aims to study the socioeconomic dynamics of Aleppo during the ottoman period in order to reveal its principal factors. Based on a methodology that depends on research in economic history, our analysis insists on the role of the geographical proximity, the technical-economic system and the local regulation system. From this study, it comes out that the concept of territory and its associated notions constitute an appropriate analysis framework to understand both the historical evolution of this old urban centre and its present mode of organization and functioning.
