Abstract

"Avec la Révolution française, l'effondrement de l'empire colonial français se confirme même si, au tout début du nouveau siècle, Napoléon tente de reconquérir les possessions perdues. Ce déclin s'est accompagné d'une très importante critique de la part des économistes, à l'encontre des institutions coloniales et du processus de colonisation dont les premiers éléments furent versés au débat dans les années 1750-1789. Les arguments économiques s'imposent de plus en plus avec des auteurs comme Say, Canard ou Sismondi. Toutefois, la critique n'est pas unanime puisque des auteurs comme Ferrier, Ganilh ou Page vont développer une position nettement plus favorable aux institutions coloniales sur la base d'un autre calcul économique."
