Abstract

Dans les « nouvelles diverses » de son numéro du 19 février 1832, L'Echo de la fabrique reproduit un extrait du journal Le voleur : « A la Louisiane on vient d'inventer un instrument qui, mu par la vapeur, creuse la terre, l'enlève et la jette de côté. Ainsi les gens qui vivent comme des machines, pourront se faire enterrer à la mécanique » . Cet extrait publié au lendemain de la première insurrection des canuts et alors même que leur journal est dirigé par deux des leurs - Antoine Vidal et Joachim Falconnet - témoigne, au mieux, sans doute, de l'optimisme pragmatique des artisans en soierie de Lyon face aux différents progrès en cours, technologique, politique ou économique
